Start of the “SDG Technology Transfer University” at COP27
The Export-Akademie Baden-Württemberg is a co-initiator of the new “SDG Technology Transfer University” for green technologies and green transformation with a main focus on the green hydrogen value chain. The declaration on the foundation of the new university was announced on 11 November 2022 at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh during an official event at the United Nations Climate Change ‘Global Innovation Hub’ (UGIH) pavilion with ministers and representatives from Egypt, Namibia and Mauritania. University campuses will be established in key green hydrogen centers in Africa. The main campus will be built in Windhoek. Here, major green hydrogen projects will be implemented in the coming years. Further locations are planned in Egypt and Mauritania. Other countries are welcome to join this pan-African initiative.
The university is supported by UGIH of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Industry Development Organization (UNIDO). The Export-Akademie Baden-Württemberg is leading the establishment of the new SDG Technology Transfer University in cooperation with African partner universities.
The programs will be in the areas of education, training and skills development. Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs as well as certified short-term training courses will be offered. In addition, training courses for professionals are offered together with German partners such as TÜV and German training centers. The uniqueness of this university is the direct linkage of all training and education programs with “real-life” green industry localization projects on the African continent.
Mr. Massamba Thioye, Project lead Executive of UGIH for the UNFCCC, and Prof. Dr. Bertram Lohmüller are looking forward to launching the first job-integrated education and training programs along the green hydrogen value chain in the first quarter of 2023.
